As people dream big and reach for more, it is not an everyday phenomenon that people achieve their goals. Some come close, though, but the majority are a far cry from what they initially envisioned. It is not like their dreams are too big to achieve or too realistic to be true, the difference is in the level of commitment and how far one is willing to go and how deep one is ready to dive into the ocean.
Life is not as simple as sipping coffee on a cold winter morning. It’s a battlefield with constantly changing variables. We cannot easily predict how tomorrow will be like, but we can work as hard as we can to make it what we want it to be. Our abilities have their limits. We may do all we can and still not achieve satisfactory or excellent results. In this instance, going back or giving up might the best option, but motivation and determination will keep us going.
There is a certain lady in Cape Town who went back to high school when she was well over the age of fifty. She never had the chance to do so while she was young due to lack of finance. She attended classes with students who were younger than her last born child. She had no friends because of her classmates believed that she was too old to share a classroom with them.
Having to cope with feeding her family and attending classes, it seemed like a mountain too high to climb and a road too long to travel. She wanted to give up a lot of times. Sometimes, she struggled to read. School work was piling up, and pressure was mounting. Studies were becoming more and more difficult, but she never gave up. She realized that this was her opportunity to get the education she had always wanted. Even though she attended night school, she was proud of where she was.
She kept on motivating herself and believing that she would make it. She would ask where she did not understand. She would practice hard what she thought she knew. She would knock on every door until it was opened for her. In no time, the academic year was finished, and she sat for her final exam. To everyone’s surprise, she passed very well, and she is one of the few who qualified to go to college. Whether she makes it in college or not, the most important thing is that she has conquered high school through determination. If she carries on with the same attitude, a college will be a walkover for her.
Motivation is the extra pair of legs that can carry you when yours can’t go on. It is the soft voice within that encourages you to push, even against all odds. Motivation has been her secret weapon. She was determined from the onset. There were times when she was down, but she would pick herself up and motivate herself again. She never allowed a little setback to define her; rather, she was determined by her desire to turn the situation in her favor. She has now become a role model to many, as many elderly people are seen registering for the evening classes so that they could go to college as well. Some people are simply motivated in order to motivate and inspire others.

“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”
-Lou Holtz
“Motivation will almost always beat mere talent.”

-Les Brown
“Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do because they want to do it.”
— Dwight Eisenhower
“Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but you can’t be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy down the line and get him to inspire his people.”
— Lee Iacocca
