It is often said that teenagers and the youth are the future of tomorrow. Being a teenager is one of the greatest moments in someone’s life. Even after a hundred years, many people still look back at who they were when they were young and remember those days. The memories may not be vivid, but the memory fragments are worth to put a smile on an elderly person. Teenage years have been associated with experimental years. It is the time when it is okay to make mistakes, for you have a future ahead of you to rectify those mistakes.
Sometimes, the future looks bleak for teenagers. Some have failed in their endeavors; it doesn’t mean the end of the world; it means that one has to try again. In some cases, it’s not even failure; it’s success that is still in its infancy. What hinders teenagers is negative thinking. They always have an excuse for not doing something, citing past bad experiences or what happened to someone else. A person has to be bigger than a problem or failure. Teenagers must face tomorrow with a positive frame of mind.
Maud Chifamba is a girl from Zimbabwe, who lost her father at the age of five. She grew up under tough conditions, but that did not deter her from achieving her dreams. As she did not have any money to go to secondary school, she continued her studies at home where she wrote and passed Ordinary level examinations in two years, which typically takes four years at schools. After that, she received financial assistance and went on to high school. She did brilliantly well and was enrolled at the University of Zimbabwe at the age of fourteen. She became Africa’s youngest university student, and she garnered international recognition.
From humble and challenging beginnings, through hard work and constantly motivating herself, her name was among Forbes Top Youngest Powerful Women in Africa, and she has gone on to deliver a speech in Italy, at an international event for girls. No one, including herself, could have predicted that she would achieve so much at a young age. Most of her success started during her teenage years.
Sometimes, it is important to look within ourselves and decide where we want to be in life. Things don’t just happen; someone has to work hard, and the hard work should start as early as possible. As people face the uncertainty of the future, the most important thing is to focus on today and what one can see. A person must be determined to go all the way, even if it means cutting through the desert. Perseverance is the key to success. It conquers obstacles, sometimes, without fighting them.
Be ready and prepared to take whatever life throws at you. If life throws bricks and concrete blocks at you, build a wall or bridge. If it throws plants, flowers, and trees; then make a beautiful garden. Never give up. Keep on pushing. Keep on knocking on the doors. Keep on climbing the mountains. Keep on dreaming. One day, you will live the dream.
